November 7th, 2008 by Mojtaba

NEW: Supports iPad (Both 3G & Wi-Fi) OS 4.3 (METHOD 7)

NEW: Now support iOS 4.3

NEW: Now you can install Appsync and Installous manually here & here.

You can find many ways to install ipa files on the iPhone! Most of them are based on the same method (Not exactly the same!) but have different look! Now the question is “Which way is better for me?” The answer depends on you and your knowledge about the iPhone OS! So we recommend you to read this guide carefully and choose your favorite way! Note that You can also use a combination of these methods! [New] The Method 3 & 4 of this guide may be interesting for those who want to develop applications for  the iPhone OS without paying apple! Read this for more information! Another important Question is “Where can I find & download the ipa files?” The answer is the following websites:

  • or search Torrent about ipa files, Remember, Google is your friend

Requirements

Before you begin

First off all you must download and install at least one application from AppStore (Free or Paid).

  2. Open iTunes
  3. Go to AppStore
  4. Select an application then Click “Get App”
  5. Enter you iTunes account info (User name & Password)

  1. Open Cydia
  2. Add this source: http://cydia.hackulo.us
  3. Still in Cydia, install “Installous”
  4. Still in Cydia, install “OpenSSH”
  5. Quit Cydia
  6. Reboot iPhone
  7. Connect iPhone to PC/Mac (Using WiFi)
  8. Connect to the iPhone using SSH connection (WinSCP ,CyberDuck , etc) “Username: root Password: alpine”
  9. Navigate to “/Private/var/mobile/Library/Downloads “
  10. Copy “.ipa” files to this folder
  11. At this time you see a list of applications that previously copied to the “Downloads” folder
  12. Click on the application name then click install.

Method 3 (Using iTunes, Automatic MobileInstallation patch)

  1. Open Cydia
  2. Add this source: http://cydia.hackulo.us or http://iphone.org.hk/apt

  4. Connect to the iPhone using SSH connection (WinSCP ,CyberDuck , etc) “Username: root Password: alpine”
  5. Navigate to /private/var/mobile/ folder
  6. Set the permission of the Applications folder to 777 (make sure reclusive is checked).
  7. Stay in the /private/var/mobile/ folder.
  8. Create a folder called “Documents” in the /private/var/mobile/ folder. Make sure to spell “Documents” correctly, with a capital “D”.
  9. Set the permission to 777.
  10. Navigate to the root level and open the /Applications folder.
  11. Create a folder called “Documents” inside the /Applications folder and set permission to 777.
  12. Go to <root> /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework
  13. Rename the file “MobileInstallation” to “MobileInstallation.bak”
  14. Download this patched MobileInstallation(For 2.1) file from HERE(2.1). Note that you have to download the patched file for the firmware you are running. ie. if you are running 2.1, you need the MobileInstallation 2.1 patched file.
  15. Place the patched file into the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileInstallation.framework folder and set the permissions 775 for the patched MobileInstallation file. If there is some type of extension (ie .dylib), then you need to remove that extension.
  16. Reboot your iPhone/iPod Touch
  17. Drag and drop the .ipa file you downloaded into the iTunes Application library.
  18. Sync your iPhone/iPod Touch and enjoy!

Method 5 (Using Moded QuickPwn) Recommended for new iPhone users.

  1. Make sure you have firmware ver 2.1, 2.2 or 2.2.1
  2. Download QuickPwn-Mod (Windows)
  3. Connect you iPhone via USB cable
  4. Run QuickPwn & follow the on screen instructions
  5. Install an application from the Apple AppStore. You can sync an application via iTunes, but make sure it is not a cracked application.
  6. Run the application once.
  7. Restart your device.
  8. You can now install cracked applications.

Method 6 – iPhone OS 3.0 (beta 3-5) * Not recommended for final release of OS 3.o

  • inside of “usrlibexec” there is a file called ‘installd’
  • replace this with the cracked ‘installd’ file and restart iPhone/iPod touch and you can install cracked apps through iTunes again on iPhone OS 3.0 (this is confirmed to work on Beta 3-Beta 5)
  • Download link:

Method 7 – iPhone OS 3.2 (iPad Only)

  1. Jailbreak your iPad using Spirit ( How TO?)
  2. Open Cydia
  3. Go to Manage Section
  4. Go to sources
  5. Add the following URL into Cydia
    • http://cydia.hackulo.us
  6. Click “Add Anyway”
  7. Ignore any errors
  8. Click on Hackulo source
  9. Select “AppSync for OS 3.2
    • iPhone & iPod Touch users should select OS 3.1
  10. Click on Install button (upper right corner)  then confirm installation
  11. Reboot iPad

Method 8 – iOS 4.3

Use the same method as 7! But in step 9 select the “AppSync for OS 4.2″ and enjoy.

        for method 2
if you can not find file when looking odds are you upgrade firmware or Installous it self, with the upgrade the folders have changed a bit, with that said the new folder your looking for is this one.Done! enjoy the new apps

People reading this hsould realize this information is from 2008. It’s no longer useful. Google Dev Team and get your initial information there. Redmond Pie is a trusted resource. It should take you a few minutes to figure out how to set it up so you just double click on an IPA to import it into itunes, and then you sync. Easy,

Yes, you can. But try deleting in-app using Installous itself. Same thing, really.

You can use SSH and copy .ipa to your Installous folder and install it from there on your iphone in the downloads section. :P That’s how I figured it would work and it did.

Hi, thanks for your guide. It work perfectly as you told. But I have 1 problem. When I tried to sync or add new IPA game/app to my iPhone 2G through iTunes, it will erase all of my old game/app and automatically add the new IPA files. So I wonder that how to add more IPA file to iPhone without erasing/replacing the old IPA game/app. Thanks and best regards.

      Hi Jr,

A lot of network issues are coming because of the releases of newer firmwares, I am a victim as well and here’s what I did.

Identify your current firmware version (Settings>General>About)

If you are on an iPhone 3G/3GS/4, with firmware 4.0 and up, then you may call your network operator and ask for APN, Username and Password

      1. Go to Settings
      2. Select General
      3. Select Network
      4. Turn on Enable 3G
      5. Turn on Cellular Data
      6. Select Cellular Data Network and input the APN, Username and Password you get from your operator
      7. Reboot

Note: If you are on firmware version 3.1.3 and below, then you may not perform Step 5 since there is no toggle for that

Now, if your Network Provider tells you that it automatically connects, then perform these

      1. Go to Settings
      2. Go to General
      3. Select Reset
      4. Select Reset Network Settings
      5. Your iPhone will automatically restart

    8.Download the ipa file
    9.Go to Downloads tab
10.Tap on the ipa file then select INSTALL

    Download WHAT ipa file?!?!

Installous is on my phone etc but when i download apps it says downloaded but they are nowhere to be found… can anybody help?
    (please?)

    • Matt writes:
      October 4th, 2010 at 1:46 AM

When the app says “downloaded”, u have to manually press install or you can go to the installous settings and set it to install automatically. What it means when it says downloaded is that it is downloaded to the phone but not on the main screen. When you install it thats when it is on your screen and is now able to be played.

I was able to add cracked ipa files on my new Itouch 8GB with MC serial and OS 3.1.3 by simply jailbreaking it with spirit. After that with cydia, i add new source of hackulo as stated above then installe Appsync 3.1. Install a few free itunes app add cracked ipa on itunes and voila, it now can be sync to my Ipod Touch. I was trying to install mobile installation but it is being hold as it has some conflict with something in my Itouch. try to look for mipatch but found none. All I could ever install was Appsync. then try to sync itunes with cracked ipa and it did.

@Aftab – Try to connect to your iPhone with SSH while showing apple logo. If connected go and replace “installd” with original version (search google).
If you can’t connect to iPhone you should restore it using iTunes. Sorry

    • d.caasi writes:

that was exactly what happened to mine.. you would have to restore your phone and unlock + jailbreak it again.. so i guess it can be highly recommended that iphone 2g users don’t use installous!! instead download AppSync to your iphone and also make sure all the Cydia programmes are installed in your phone before trying to install a cracked .ipa.. if everything goes well, use itunes to sync the new apps

hi,i’m really having a lot of problem with Installous.. I tried 2 methods of installing cracked .ipa and both times forced me to restore me phone

The first time i used it, I installed Safari DL Plug-In, MI Patch and Installous from Cydia.. I then downloaded some crack .ipa from Appulous on my Windows and when i synced my phone to my Windows via iTunes, none of the apps appeared on my phone.. so i tried to reboot my phone, but to my dissapointment.. my phone just froze at the apple logo at start up and i had to restore my phone…

For the second time, i installed Installous on my phone through Cydia and downloaded the apps directly to my phone using Installous.. after completing its installation, the app did not appear on my phone again and when i rebooted my phone, the same thing happened.. my phone just froze at the apple logo…

Can some one please tell me what did i do wrong? i really do not want to restore my phone again because it’s so troublesome especially on my computer…

Hackulo.us has released Appsync for OS 3.0, you can find it through Hackulo.us’s section in Cydia (source: http://cydia.hackulo.us), the easiest method would be to install this and reboot ur device, then sync with iTunes ;)

All Cydia apps will be removed. But ipa files could be restore using itunes. before updating open iTunes right click on your iPhone then click back up… .
now update your iPhone (UPDATE NOT RESTORE) to the 2.2.1. once completed restore backup using iTunes. Now you have your previously installed ipa files on your iPhone.
if you want to install more apps go to Cydia & install MiPatch.

@Mayur – DFU mode stands for Device Firmware Update and it's the last resort if you can't get the phone to boot up or do anything. You only do this if after you plug your iPhone to iTunes and iTunes doesn't recognise your phone. Do the following and iTunes and you can do a restore
    - Hold home button for 5 seconds
    - hold home and power for 10
    - hold home for 30
    - by then your phone should show up on iTunes
    - do a shift-restore in iTunes to put the original firmware back

Another user had advised that if you had back up the original MobileInstallation file, you can do the following: Now boot you iphone up so it is on the logo and then plug it into the computer. Now you can still SSH into your iphone while it is on the boot logo so all you have to do is put the original one back in place and reboot your iphone then try and do it again.

Worst, iTunes didn't even recognize my phone when I plugged it in and I'd to do a DFU to do a restore! I just want to clarify that in Method 3, I do not have to do any directories setting/creation and all and everything is done via Cydia? And the MobileInstallation patch in Cydia is for firmware v2.2.1? Thank you much!

Copy cracked ipa files into your iTunes Library (just drag and drop

    Start Syncing iPhone!

    - How do I drag and drop? And from where do I do it? I´ve installed the app, that was easy. But I can´t figure out where you mean…

[Updated]Works fine on the new iPhone OS 2.2!

Note: According to our readers, current version (1.2.x) of installous may not work correctly!”

this actually does work, but there is a missing step. once you install “installous” you have to actually download something directly from it in order to create the download folder in the library. once you download your first application from the phone, everything works fine. it took me a while to figure out that problem.

For uninstalling an application (ipa file), just hold your finger on one of the iphone apps, wait for icons to start shaking, then tap the X button… !!!!

Thank you thank you so, so much–annoying issue ..figured was cause of outdated (<2.2) mobileinstallation patch and you were able to brilliantly update to 2.2 version. Awesome help that is greatly appreciated, thanks again.

    Hey, great post.
I’ve added mirrors for peoples if they want the file. This is just the modified mobileinstallation file for 2.2 firmware:

You must install at least one app (Free or Paid) from iTunes after that all apps will be opened successfully!

Updating iPhone to this new version will de-jailbreak your iPhone. So Cydia & apps that installed with Cydia will completely remove from your phone. You must wait until Dev-Team release a new version of QuickPwn.

@ madarzatbhadu – Check your internet connection using safari! If it's okay, you may have to re-jailbreak your iPhone in order to re-install Cydia!

After installing this I was able to install all my apps but now everytime I want to install/uninstall something with Cydia it lists Cydia Installer Essential as something it wants to uninstall AND it throws an error in the log files about your AppSync. Icy says it’s missing a colon and Cydia says something about an error #2.

I can’t uninstall this package anymore. Any help is appreciated since I don’t have an ftp or ssh program installed to manually see what’s happening in the log files.

  • Mojtaba writes:

@tearz- Try using “installd” instead of “AppSync” from Xsellize repo.
