Property list (.plist) editor for windows
November 27th, 2008 by Mojtaba

As you know, a lot of iPhone files (System preferences files) are in the .PLIST (Property list) format! In some cases (Such as enabling Emoji, Correcting Country code, etc!) we need to edit these files!

There are several applications for opening/editing these files on MAC OS X (Xcode itself contains a property list editor)!

But till today I can’t find any application that able to do this for windows users! Today I find a little software that can easily open and edit these files (Both Binary format & XML format!) in windows!

You can download it directly here (File size: 20KB, Zip format).

Other softwares: Notepad++, EditPadLite

    On windows, to get files without jailbreaking your iDevice, use iPhone Explorer :)

      @Bored: Thanks for your help. Can you write something about how to use iPhone Explorer?

    I had the CoreFoundation error too – just use the built-in plist converter;

    “C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\plutil.exe”

    Its a command line util, but its easy enough to use. binary1 is the original .plist format, and xml1 is an editable format (just xml) that you can tweak in Notepad.

    Note all of your command switches have to come before the filename.

    it seems there is a problem with non english windows in particular. so this is how i got it working:

    1) make a copy of the dir ‘C:\Programme\Gemeinsame Dateien\Apple\’ in ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\’

    2) create this dir: ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\’

    3) copy ‘pledit.exe’ to ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support\’ and start it from there

    doesn’t work with safari installed or if I open a .plist file with “open with” option.

    waste of time.

    Interesting read. There is currently quite a lot of information around this subject around and about on the net and some are most defintely better than others. You have caught the detail here just right which makes for a refreshing change – thanks.

    Howdy … ;-)

    This is just the tool i was looking for … but unfortunately it throws “CoreFoundation init failed!”.

    Seems as if some core stubs are not available!

    Greets,
